“Remember the first time you heard that Will Smith's 9-year-old daughter was launching a music career? Now remember when you actually got round to hearing 'Whip My Hair' and realized that it was probably the best single you'd heard all year? Well get ready for a all those feelings rolled into one and then washed up to distill their purest ingredients as you come face-to-face with Lyrikkal, another 9-year-old sensation, but with a capital G to her swaG” (UK Journalist Jaimie Hodgson, NME.com)

With a typical day that includes school, homework, dance class, singing lessons, cheerleading practice, studio sessions, and an occasional photo or video shoot, Young Lyric (aka Lyrikkal) just might be the busiest 10-year old girl on the planet, and it appears that her hard work is beginning to pay off as the honor student has become an international hip-hop sensation and internet favorite, receiving over a million views on YouTube and WorldstarHipHop.com in just a few short weeks! She was also recently featured on Pixie Magazine's website, TV Gawker, CNN Entertainment, and Billboard.com; and she is currently nominated for The 2nd Annual Female Hip Hop Honors "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" award!

Born Lyric Michell Ragston in Houston, TX on July 30, 2000, Young Lyric developed a love for singing, dancing, and rapping at an early age (and with having both a father and uncle who were aspiring artists and a recording studio connected to her bedroom, this may have been inevitable). She recorded her first song at the age of 7 and performed it in front of her entire school during their black history program that same year. She blew everyone away with her lyrics, timing, dancing, and stage presence, and has been asked to perform at every school event since that day. Where most kids freeze up, Lyric doesn’t seem to know what shy is. If you were to call Lyric into a crowded room and ask her to sing, rap, or dance, she wouldn’t hesitate to turn on the magic and put on the show of her life. Her energy is contagious and electrifying, and her creativity and rap-skills are truly amazing.

Young Lyric’s hip-hop career, although apparently soaring now, is one that really began by accident. She had been writing raps to popular tracks for years, but had never even attempted anything serious. One day, she and a few friends decided to shoot a webcam video of one of her songs (a remix to Young Jeezy’s “Lose My Mind”) and they posted it on YouTube for kicks. Within days, it was reposted by Worldstarhiphop.com and received over 200,000 hits!! Lyric quickly released 7 additional videos which have gained even more views plus the attention of music labels, radio stations, A&R’s, DJ’s, managers, agents, and fans of all ages from all over the world (Her videos have been reposted globally by sites like Popdust, StreetSeekers, Hip-Hop UK, Hip-Hop Russia, Hip-Hop India, Hip-Hop Haiti, etc..). Her fan base is growing at an astronomical rate, and she was recently asked to create a series of hip-hop songs to be used in television and radio commercials by the world-famous “Crown Jeweler to the Stars” Johnny Dang (aka TV Johnny), whose clients include Lil Wayne, Nelly, Paris Hilton, Shaquille O’Neal, Rick Ross, Bow Wow, Jermaine Dupri, Paul Wall, DJ Khaled, and many more).

Lyric’s unique music style and fashion sense are a mix of Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, and R&B, and she has already been compared to industry giants including Raven Symone, Nicki Minaj, KeKe Palmer, and Willow Smith. She is absolutely adorable with kid-friendly songs that appeal to both children and adults alike. She is young and cute enough for Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, and Disney, and she can turn it up and play with the big kids on MTV and BET as well. Young Lyric has been labeled as “The Best 10-year old Rapper Alive” by WorldStarHipHop.com viewers, and when asked about Lyric’s latest video “Michelle Obama” (a remix to Rick Ross’ BMF), MTV’s reality show star Whitney Port recently stated “I love it”, adding that “I wish I had that much swag when I was 9”.

Young Lyric has just released her first mixtape, “2 Lyrikkal” which has over 20 songs including “Pink and Purple” (remix of Wiz Khalifa’s #1 hit “Black and Yellow”) and “I Get Whatever I Want” (remix of Willow Smith’s “Whip my Hair”), and she has just finished recording her first official debut single, “Young n Fly”, which will be released in April of 2011. Undeniably talented and attractive, extremely versatile, and driven by her dream of being the best entertainer in the world, Young Lyric is destined for superstardom and about to embark on an incredible journey that will keep us watching for years to come.
